The Embassy of the Argentine Republic is deeply saddened by the death of Sir Derek Walcott who was in many ways described by the Press in the Argentine Republic, including but not limited to:
The Los Andes Newspaper “Sir Walcott was the poet who truly described Caribbean sensuality.”
The Nación Newspaper “Regardless of multicultural considerations, Walcott was a true virtuoso of form and one of the greatest poets in English language.”
The Clarin Newspaer “Derek Walcott was a Nobel laureate poet who captured the essence of his native Caribbean island and is the most recognized writer in the region internationally,”
Argnoticias.com, the online based newspaper “He was widely praised for his deep and audacious use of metaphor, and for his mixture of sensuality and technical dexterity”
H.E. Luis Beltrán Martínez Thomas, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic in Saint who knew the late Sir Walcott personally, commented: “The loss of such a great writer and wonderful human being is indeed a great loss to Saint Lucia, the Caribbean and the entire world of culture in general.”
